You’re invited: First meeting of the new West End neighborhood association

After many months of labor, the West End now has its own neighborhood association. If you live in the West End, please come to our historic first meeting to help elect a new board of directors. Consider running yourself! Board members attend monthly board meetings and get involved in other projects, if they wish. We will also vote on a set of new bylaws, which a transition committee has been putting together over the past two months. (You can read the bylaws at the link below.) And we’ll have an update about development on 27th St. and news about a grassroots effort to make cycling in Boise safer and easier by linking existing bikeways. Please join us on Monday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Whittier Elementary School, 301 N 29th St. If you wonder if you live in the West End, click on the link to the neighborhood association map below.

Graffiti prevention

We recently found graffiti on the first interpretive sign of the West End trail. We are very thankful to Josh Olsen of the Boise Arts and History department who cleaned it up quickly!

Please help prevent graffiti in the neighborhood by reporting it promptly! The city of Boise has a graffiti hotline (377-6790), and you are more than welcome to contact us to help report or follow up.

27th street project update

As you may know, the recent addition of the 30th street extension (Whitewater Park blvd) will be followed by changes to 27th street. It will likely have a lower traffic volume and improved pedestrian crossings. The update below comes from Al Busche, project director at ACHD, and says that the work should begin in late August and go through October.

The bids for the 27th Street, Fairview to State Street project were opened on July 9th, 2014. The ACHD Commission has been asked to award the bid at the July 23rd Commission meeting. Once awarded, the ACHD Construction Department will be working with the successful low bid contractor to obtain the necessary insurance and bonding documents, project construction schedule, shop drawings, mix design submittals, and apply for the required “Notice of Intent” document from the EPA (then wait for the required 10 day period). This puts the “Notice to Proceed” for the start of construction on August 25th, 2014. Substantial Completion is scheduled by contract for October 20th, 2014.

To learn more about the project, see a map of improvements, and give feedback visit the 27th Street project page on the ACHD web site!
