Neighborhood Interpretive Walking Trail
« Volunteer |Background Info: In March 2011, VPNA won a Boise City Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant to construct an interpretive, walking trail from the new greenbelt bridge to Fairview Park on 23rd Street. These endpoints will be anchored by interpretive signs and linked together by trail markers attached to the sidewalk.
Our hope is that the trail will:
- Offer a novel way for residents and visitors to explore our neighborhood’s history, architectural charm and cultural diversity,
- Connect our neighborhood across the 30th Street thoroughfare to the new parks and the river,
- Strengthen our identity.
Timeline: Construction of the trail is planned by Spring 2013. Prior to construction (2011 and 2012) there will be a number of interesting ways to be involved including a number of workshops you won’t want to miss. Workshops will get underway with historian Tully Gerlach sharing his research. Other workshops will hopefully highlight architecture, our ethnic diversity and how to conduct historical research at the Idaho Historical Library.
Help Build the Trail by Joining the Trail Committee: We need people interested in our neighborhood and willing to work with a team of your neighbors. If this sounds like you I’m sure there are ways you can help us. All ages are welcome! Please use the email above to get in touch with us.
The trail committee will organize community workshops, conduct oral history interviews, collect photos, pick the trail’s name, the trail’s final route and the information on interpretive signs. For more information you can read the grant proposal here.
