Warm weather means event season is really heating up. I’ve added a bunch of events to the VPNA calendar. In our hood there are bike rides, food festivals, roadway open houses, mobile recreation times, VPNA board meetings, and the VPNA movie night! What did I miss? Please email us at let us know of other events in and around the VPNA and I will add them to the calendar.
Did you get your
postcard last week? The Veterans Park Neighborhood Association annual meeting is Monday, April 20! It will be at 6 pm at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 23rd and Woodlawn.
Save the date: VPNA’s annual meeting will be Monday, April 20
Are you doing spring cleaning? Do you have items that you no longer need that you want to donate? Please consider giving them to residents of the Davis Park Apartments. Many families are also in need of bathroom supplies. New toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, soap, shampoo, detergent, deodorant, loufa, floss, etc.
Donations can be brought to the VPNA annual meeting. Jason LaBrado from Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) will be there to collect them, talk about upcoming events, and answer any questions. Items can also be brought to the NHS office (3380 W. Americana Terrace Suite 120, Boise). Large items (like furniture) should be brought directly to the Spring Fling event (April 23 at Davis Park Apartments, more details to follow).

We are excited to make this a great year for our community and would love to have anyone involved who feels the same! More details to come soon.
Multi-Use Sports Stadium (ie new Boise Hawks stadium and more) Marc Johnson from the Better Boise Coaliation will talk about the proposed project and answer questions. The proposal is for this stadium to be built in the Main/Fairview area.
VPNA Board Elections, officers and vacant area rep positions. There are a number of open board positions. For information about joining the board click here
An open house will begin at 6pm. A few presentations and elections will occur between 6:30-7:30pm. Keep an eye out for a full agenda in the next couple weeks.
Consider Joining the Board:
We are drumming up interest in vacancies before the meeting. The Veteran’s Park area is divided into 9 neighborhoods(click here to see a map), currently there are many vacancies. Some neighborhoods don’t even have representation; these include Veteran’s Point, Quail Glen and Independence Park.
The time commitment of being a board member is mostly up to the individual. At a minimum we’d like new members to attend most monthly board meetings (held the 3rd Monday of each month at Idaho River Sports from 6:30-8pm). If you choose to get involved outside of board meetings, what you do is also left open to personal choice. Some possibilities and past examples include:
Representing VPNA on a CCDC sub-committee, connect to some portion of the 30th St plan implementation.
Getting a community center built in our neighborhood
Helping with fundraising to pay for our website and community events.
Organizing neighborhood get-togethers.
Writing grants. Starting the Jordan Street Community Garden.
